It happens to everyone at some point or another, especially when you’re just starting to do coffee enemas. On occasion, one may experience difficulty holding the coffee enema for the full recommended 12-15 minutes. You might experience some cramping, intestinal distress, gas, or spasms that send you running to the toilet before you’ve even managed to take in the full solution (don’t worry; we won’t go into graphic detail!)
So what do you do if you find yourself in this situation?
Fear not, we’ve come up with a list of tips and tricks for you, in case you find yourself unable to hold an enema.
Tips for Holding Coffee Enemas – The Basics
- to ensure that you are doing it right (see references below). If you have prepared the coffee solution incorrectly or are not following the proper instructions, you may find this is the cause of your troubles.
- Re-read the proper coffee enema recipe & procedure carefully
- Relax, breathe deeply.
- While instilling the coffee, stop the flow with the clamp as needed, and don’t forget to breathe.
- Make sure it is less than 18” above your body, or else the coffee will flow too fast. Check the height of the bucket.
- Check the temperature of the enema solution. If it is too hot or too cold, it may be more difficult for the patient to hold. The solution should always be at body temperature.
- Pull your knees closer to your stomach, in the fetal position.
- Place the tip of your thumb on the first knuckle of your ring finger and apply pressure to the knuckle (see picture below). This is a pressure point that can help alleviate cramping in the lower intestine.
If You’re Still Having Trouble, Try These “Advanced” TechniquesIf you are experiencing blockage due to feces or gas, try doing an enema first with 16 ounces of distilled water at body temperature. Rub your stomach so the water flows into your colon, hold it for about 5 minutes and release. After the water enema, you may try a coffee enema. If you are taking multiple coffee enemas per day (as on the full therapy), you should not take a water enema before every coffee enema–only before your morning enema.Water enema
- Chamomile enema. The first enema of the day can be the most difficult. Try a chamomile tea enema first and hold for only 5 minutes (see references for the recipe), and then follow it up with the coffee enema.
- to release gas, and then raise it back up.Lower the enema bucket
- Introduce half of the enema solution, release, and then go back to do the remaining coffee.
- Add potassium compound to coffee solution to relieve cramping and spasms. Add 2 tsp per enema to the solution, and discontinue after 1-2 days.
