Are Coffee Enemas Dangerous?

Although the majority of people can do coffee enemas and get great benefits from coffee enemas, there are some people that should not do coffee enemas.  If you have any of the following, do not do coffee enemas:

  1. Currently undergoing chemotherapy
    b. Renal, cardiac or respiratory failure
    c. Bleeding and/or ulceration in the colon tract
    d. Ulcerative Colitis
    e. Crohn’s disease
    f. Ileostomy (no colon)
    g. Hypertension and/or tachycardia
    h. Pregnant (consult with your primary physician or Gerson Practitioner)
    i. Acute or ongoing chronic diarrhea until investigated by a physician
    j. First 6-8 weeks post-surgery (always check with your primary physician or Gerson Practitioner)

We always sugggest you see a naturopath before starting any coffee enema program.  Some people buy the Healing the Gerson Way book and will follow that program at home.   It is a simple, yet very effective program that has been used for over 40 years now, with great success.   The benefits of a coffee enema program are beyond anything you would expect from such a simple thing as coffee enemas.

Charlotte Gerson has a video, which is on our website, and she explains that if you are not following a scientifically studied and proven program, such as the Gerson Therapy, that you would be better off not doing coffee enemas.  Coffee enemas can be dangerous if you dont provide your body with enough nutrients, such as with juicing raw organic vegetables and fruits and drinking 3 - 8 ounce glasses of juice per day for every coffee enema.

A change of diet to organic vegetables is also important when doing a coffee enema program.

Coffee enemas can cause the body to lose electrolytes and minerals, and so replenishing your body is important or it could cause your body to weaken.

If you have a heart condition,  there are some medical doctors that say coffee enemas can be given to those with heart disease.   But not if you have had cardiac or respiratory failure.

Coffee enemas could be dangerous if you do too many per day, or use a solution that is too strong.   So how many coffee enemas can you do per day?   If you have cancer, Gerson sometimes recommends multiple coffee enemas per day.   It is best to see a naturopath if you dont know how many is okay for you.

I myself have never done more than 1  per day for 30 days.  It worked like a charm and I was able to quickly remove the toxins that had caused a nerve condition or illness in my body.

Always listen to your body when doing a coffee enema. How do you feel?  If you have been doing coffee enemas for a few weeks and you are tired all the time, then you are probably not getting enough nutrients in your system.

Has anyone died from a coffee enema?  From my research it appears in over a 40 year span, 2 people died from overuse of coffee enemas, and became severely dehydrated causing a serious disturbance or imbalance of electrolytes.
